Brain Teasers – Where did the dollar go?
I came across this brain teaser this morning and thought i would post it. Some of you may have seen this before, but i thought it was a good brain teaser for a while.
Where did the dollar go?
Three men check into a hotel. They pay a total of $30.00 to the hotel floor manager and go to their hotel room.
The manager then realises that the room really only totaled a bill of $25.00 and gives the bellboy a $5.00 note to take upstairs and return to the men.
On bellboy’s Journey to the hotel room, the bellboy realises that a $5.00 note would be hard to split between 3 people, so he returns to the front desk and changes the $5.00 note for a $2.00 coin and 3 x $1.00 coins. He pockets the $2.00 coin and returns upstairs and hands $1.00 to each of the 3 customers staying in the hotel room.
Now, each person paid $10 ($30.00 / 3) and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totalling $27.00. The bellboy has $2.00, totalling $29.00.
Where did the remaining dollar go?

Didn’t go anywhere….
room rent = $25.00
BellBoy = $2.00
Total = $27.00
which is $9.00 * 3
The faulty reasoning lies in the addition at the end.
3 x $9 does equal $27, but the $2 tip is included in that $27, so it makes no sense to add the $2 to $27 to make $29.
They paid $25 for the hotel room, $2 for the tip ($27), and then got $1 back each to make the original.
So, in short, regardless of where the $5 is at the moment and how much each man has left, $25 has been paid for the room. 2 of the men have paid $8 and one has paid $9 = $25, but unknown to the men, the bellboy has kept $2 of the money, and $3 has been given back. = $5. $25 + $5 = $30. Clever play on words!!
i think you have to divide the original cost of each person that spend the money … 25 divide by 3 = 8.333.. so 8.333.. times 3= 27.999.. + the 2 dollars kept the bell boy = 29.9999999 = 30.00
the money stills there is just how you solve trycky problem
like 25+3+2=30 is the same thing
