SEO tips – 5 Awesome SEO Tips
5 Search Engine Optimization tips
People have mentioned to me that some seo tips on my blog maybe useful. So i have prepared a few vital SEO tips to help you get better Google rankings on the internet (the good way).
5 SEO Tips
1. Keyword Research
The first thing you need to do for your website is select the keywords you are going to target or optimize for. You should really select more than 3 keyword phrases for your main website home page.
In order to find the most suitable keywords for your website i would advise Aaron Wall’s Keyword Suggestion tool. This tool will let you in on a few secrets. when you type in the search terms you think are relevant to your website and submit it to the keyword suggestion tool, it will return the approximate number of searches that term is likely to get every day. from here you can see other related website search phrases which will potentially get you more website traffic.
2. Keywords in Title Tag
After you have researched your keywords and you have a few keyword phrases up your sleeve. The best thing you can do in order to get Google, MSN and Yahoo to know what you website is about is to implement these keywords into your “title” tag. Think of your website like an important report. The title of your website should describe your website. It sounds Simple, but the number of times i see websites with “HOME” as there front page title suggests to me that people generally have no idea about common SEO practices. An Example, If i were to have a website providing Free ecommerce software, then i should have those terms in my title tags, so that not only do people know what my website is about, but Google will know what it is about as well. Very important to get right in SEO, and trust i have made these very mistakes. Please learn from my mistakes!!
3. Keywords in Meta Description
To get this done correctly, you must imagine that report again, picture describing your report in one sentence. This that you should have in your meta description. Google will look to make sure that you keywords are in your Meta Description. If it finds your keywords in there then it knows that your website is about “YOUR KEYWORDS” and will more likely to rank you for those keywords.
4. Content
Google and the like (MSN, Yahoo) love to find new content. If you can provide decent content then they will love you. A few sentences, completely of topic to what your website suggests through your title and Meta description will not get you first page rankings. Make sure that your content mentions your keywords and phrases a few times. Don’t over do it or it may look like spam. Google are a lot smarter these days, so watch out!
5. Link Building
One very important tactic used by many people to get good web rankings on the search engines is a term called Link Building. When Google, MSN or Yahoo find a link to your website from another website, they see this as a vote of confidence for your website.
Try to get links pointing to your website with the keywords you are trying to target as your link text. For example, if i wanted to link build for Digistre – Free Ecommerce, then i would maybe have a link like Free Ecommerce Software placed on a few websites of my choice (or who ever lets me get a link on their website) so that when Google crawels that website the next time around, they see that website linking to my website saying that i a provide Free Ecommerce Software.
If i can get a few websites to say the same about my website or maybe switch the text a little (Free ecommerce solutions or Open Source Ecommerce Software) then Google is soon enough going to realize that my website is about Free ecommerce Software.Hint: Getting 5 Quality links from related websites to your own will be far better then getting hundreds of links from non relevant websites.
Overview
If you can follow the first 4 of these 5 tips, and begin to create your website around a few keywords or phrases, i can almost guarantee that you will notice better search rankings. In order to top the rest of your competition online, you will need to begin link building to you website.

Regarding link building, build slowly. Getting too many links very fast will seem almost spam-like and may hurt. Additionally look at deep linking, getting links to pages other than your home page will help.
Some good advice there, Catskill is right.. Google are on to mass link purchases and the like. I guess the idea here is to make it look as much like, other people linking to you as opposed to making it obvious you are getting the links yourself. Deep linking (linking to other web pages within your website) will help you target different but related search phrases, and put more weighting on certain pages for particular keywords, Another good point. Thanks for the Comment Cat. ;)
Well – very good advice for new marketers. Very basic things that I guess are old hat for many people but still need to be explained simply to those new to the subject.
Your right Anna, these are the bare bones to SEO, but with out these basics, you can fail miserably. Maybe a few more technical articles to come. Thanks for your input.
You might also want to check out the free website SEO services that are around. I know that you don’t get something for nothing, but if you are on a small budget, these free website seo offers can get you started.
You are so right about keyword research being the first step, it’s also the most important step as far as i am concerned, there is no point in optimizing a web page for a keyword phrase when nobody actually searches using the term, unfortunately it is difficult to get reliable information regarding the number of searches for any given search term.
Wow! Interesting article…It’s very useful for SEO beginners…. I have bookmarked this for future reference
