How to disable the backlight timeout on the Blackberry.
It has come to my attention that one of the most frequently asked questions on the internet regarding functionality of the Blackberry PDA, particularly the Blackberry curve to my experience is disabling the backlight time out function.
This can not be done using the standard Blackberry functionality and must need an external application in order to enable this.
Introducing the BBlight which will allow you to disable the backlight timeout on the blackberry. BBlight is a free download. This Blackberry application lets you manually adjust the backlight settings for your PDA so that If you are like me, and often have problems keeping the backlight on when your watching a video or trying to read something like a lengthy article, you can set the backlight settings to not switch off when doing certain activities. While it is pretty easy to simply move the wheel when it fades, it becomes annoying to do all the time and when you just want to focus your attention on something of interest.
Here is a simple utility that keeps your backlight on until you want to turn it off.
Features include:
- Turn light on when external power is applied
- Turn light on at a specific time of day for a certain duration}
- Turn light on with User Activity
- Turn light on when device is removed from holster

I downloaded the BBlight program and it did not work for me. I have a Blackberry 8310 curve…I tried every setting on it and the light still goes out.
Perfect! Just what I was looking for! I used a pocketpc with a docking station and got acustomed to seeing my appointments without having to ‘light it up’. I bought a power station for my blackberry which, combined with this app, gives me the same thing. Thanks!!!
I tried the ‘screenlight’ application and its doing the job. Its paid but the simple on/off toggle function is worth the money.
