What is a Trojan Virus and how to get rid of one.
Most people have heard of a virus and the problems that they can cause on and through your computer. But many still ask what a Trojan or Trojan Horse virus is, what they do, and how to get rid of them.
What is a Trojan or Trojan horse virus? – An basic concept of todays Trojan Virus
Trojans get their name from famous Greek mythology. In the story, the Greeks and their army were attacking the city of Troy. When they realised they were not able to attack and break through the defences they decided on an alternate plan. They built a wooden horse, which appeared to be a gift to the people of Troy… But once it was pulled inside the city gates, Greek soldiers hidden in the wooden house began their attacks, while not having to gain access anymore.
A Trojan horse virus replicates this procedure pretty closely, hence the name Trojan. What a computer Trojan virus usually does is appear to be a useful piece of software, perhaps a screen saver, or in many instances a Antivirus system. What actually happens when you install the program and what you see, may be entirely different things.
Have you ever installed an anti-virus program that appears to be entirely free, you do a scan, and in order to delete the 100 or so “viruses” this system has found on your computer you must purchase the full version of the program? This is a simple version of a Trojan virus, at least you know whats going on, and you can get rid of it.
Be aware of other instances of Trojan viruses that you would never know about. By simply being connected to the internet, you are opening the door to Trojan infections on your computer, this is of course if you do not have anti-virus software to protect yourself.
